Azerbaijan represented at International Maritime Transport Conference

The delegation of the State Maritime and Port Agency represented Azerbaijan at the 2nd Sustainable Maritime Transport Conference held in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, APA-Economics reports.

The Agency was represented by Advisor to the Chairman of the Management Board, Habil Abbasov, and Director of the International Relations Department Ramil Gasimov.

Organized by the General Directorate of Transport of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the conference brought together senior officials of the International Maritime Organization, the International Hydrographic Organization, the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities, and the International Mobile Satellite Organization, alongside delegations from various countries, ambassadors, and leaders of the maritime transport industry.

Within the framework of the event, bilateral meetings were held with representatives of Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Malaysia, and Ukraine. During the discussions, Azerbaijan's commitment to supporting international initiatives aimed at enhancing sustainability in maritime transport was emphasized. The importance of innovation and modern technologies in improving operational efficiency and reducing emissions was also highlighted.

The conference discussions focused on coordinated regional and international efforts to reduce emissions and advance digital transformation, the creation of green shipping corridors between ports, standardized digital platforms and emissions reporting, as well as the establishment of regional sustainability funds to support innovation and small and medium-sized enterprises.

The sessions addressed cutting-edge maritime technologies, the role of digitalization and cybersecurity in improving efficiency and safety, and contributions to building a sustainable transport industry. The seminars covered strategies for reducing shipping-related carbon emissions, roadmaps for small and medium-sized maritime enterprises, as well as the development of green finance and insurance solutions supporting sustainable development.
