Baku hosts regional conference on IMO Convention and Protocol

A regional conference has today kicked off in Baku, focusing on the Convention on the Prevention of Marine Pollution by Dumping of Wastes and Other Matter (International Maritime Organization (IMO) London Convention, 1972) and its 1996 Protocol for the Caspian and Black Seas Littoral States.
Gudrat Gurbanov, Chief of Azerbaijan State Maritime Administration (ASMA), said in his opening address that the country’s action plan on environmental clean-up of the Caspian Sea is being intensively implemented in line with international standards.
“This plan is aimed at addressing environmental problems,” he added.
The two-day conference is attended by delegations from Turkey, Iran, Ukraine, Georgia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Bulgaria and Romania, as well as representatives of foreign oil companies.
The conference will focus on the discussion of ways to solve the problem of Marine Pollution by Dumping of Wastes and Other Matter and other related issues.
