Official Yerevan has not refused the Russian, Azerbaijani and Armenian leaders' November 10, 2020, trilateral statement, Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, said in today's briefing, while answering the question "After Azerbaijan carried out "ethnic cleansing" against the Armenian population of Garabagh, does Russia consider that the statement of November 10 remains valid? If it thinks so, then how does Moscow see the return of Armenians to Garabagh?", APA's Moscow correspondent reports.
Zakharova objected to the Armenian journalist's use of the term "ethnic cleansing". He noted that no international organization, which is respected in Armenia, has come to any conclusion regarding "ethnic cleansing" in Garabagh.
"When we discussed this half a year ago, you were unable to show me any decision or assessment related to "ethnic cleansing" made by any international organization or expert working in an international organization. If you have such information, if there is a relevant assessment, then provide an example, and share it with me! As for the question of how Russia envisions the return of the Armenian population of Garabagh, I wish to clarify, how does the Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan see this? Is there any detailed program in this regard? I, for example, have seen Azerbaijan's program on the return of the Armenian population of Garabagh. If the Armenian Prime Minister has come forward with such a program, I would be glad to review it. Then I would also comment on it."
Russian MFA Spokesperson emphasized that the November 10, 2020, trilateral statement is in effect. She stressed that as before, this document forms the basis of the Armenia-Azerbaijan normalization process. "We believe that there is no alternative to this statement. If you are aware of anyone at the official level in Armenia rejecting this statement, for example, withdrawing their signature, despite that signature remaining on the statement, or if an official declaration has been made stating that this document is no longer in force, then we would comment on that. However, we have not heard of such a thing."
The mentioned agreements (November 10, 2020, tripartite statement-ed.)" cover all the main tracks of the normalization of relations between Baku and Yerevan, including the development of a peace agreement, delimitation and demarcation of borders, opening of communications in the region, and establishing contacts between civil societies. Attempts to doubt them are extremely dangerous."
Zakharova added that these topics were discussed in detail during official talks with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev during Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Baku and a phone talk with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on August 23: “By the way, you can clarify from the Armenian authorities, during the negotiations (Putin-Pashinyan telephone conversation-ed.), did the Armenian side officially inform that it considers the trilateral agreements as invalid documents from now on? I don't know anything about it,” as the Russian MFA spokesperson advised the Armenian journalist to ask the Armenian authorities whether or not they consider the trilateral statement to be valid.
