Glaciers continue to retreat from the Himalayas to the Caucasus, and artificial intelligence can play an important role in glacier monitoring and the development of early warning systems, Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Professor Celeste Saulo, said in a video address to a panel discussion titled “Benefits and Challenges of Integrating Artificial Intelligence into Multi-Hazard Early Warning Systems” held as part of Baku Climate Action Week 2026 (BCAW 2026), APA reports.
She said that “Baku Climate Action Week should become a platform where we make use of opportunities for international cooperation, investment and capacity building, which are crucial to ensuring that the benefits of artificial intelligence are accessible to everyone: "From Baku Climate Action Week to COP31 in Antalya, it is important to move from discussions on climate to concrete action. Because we do not have a single minute to lose. People around the world expect us to deliver better results.”
