Lavrov calls Kyiv’s statements on proposals presented by Witkoff and Kushner speculation

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has called Kyiv’s statements regarding proposals presented by US negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner speculation, APA’s Moscow bureau reports.

The Russian minister declined to comment on the proposals that Witkoff and Kushner “brought to Moscow and then took to Kyiv.”

Lavrov said that his country’s diplomatic tradition requires limiting comments to what has been decided to be shared with the public.

The Russian Foreign Minister noted that the substance of the discussions held with the US negotiators in Moscow is based on Donald Trump’s position, which includes not drawing Ukraine into NATO and recognising the realities on the ground.

Lavrov emphasised that the United States recognises the basic principles of a Ukrainian settlement and is trying to be helpful around them, which deserves support.

According to him, when discussing the Ukraine issue with Russia, the Americans proceed from the realities on the ground. “Therefore, Moscow is ready to continue the dialogue.”

It should be noted that the Ukrainian media have published information detailing the peace plan presented by the US delegation. According to the reports, the document envisages the withdrawal of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from the Donbas and Zaporizhzhia regions, where a UN contingent could be deployed, Kyiv’s renunciation of attempts to regain the territory by force, and Ukraine’s neutral status, excluding NATO and other military alliances.

In addition, the document envisages holding elections and a referendum in Ukraine, amending the constitution, limiting the size of the armed forces, and reaching agreements on language issues.
