“Digital document exchange between institutions makes it possible to save approximately 5 million pages every month. This means preserving more than 6,000 trees a year,” Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rashad Hasanov said during a panel titled “From COP29 to Climate Week: Digital Action Pathway for a Green World,” held as part of Baku Climate Action Week 2026 (BCAW 2026), APA reports.

He said that drought, desertification, and water resources in Azerbaijan are monitored through satellites, remote sensing, and geographic information systems, while water levels and water quality in rivers are also monitored.

The Deputy Minister noted that work is also being carried out to reduce the environmental impact of the telecommunications sector: “The installation of solar-powered base stations operating on renewable energy has begun. These stations use renewable energy for more than 60% of their operating time. In Karabakh alone, there are more than 35 such stations. Azerbaijan’s experience shows that digital action delivers measurable results. This leads to fewer paper documents, lower energy consumption, forest conservation, and better environmental outcomes.”
