A videoconference meeting was held between Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov and Algeria’s Minister of State and Minister of Hydrocarbons Mohamed Arkab, the Ministry told APA-Economics.
During the meeting, satisfaction was expressed with the development of friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Algeria, and it was noted that political dialogue at the level of the heads of state has created a solid foundation for expanding bilateral cooperation. Successful cooperation in the energy sector, including within OPEC+, as well as relations between SOCAR and Sonatrach, were highlighted.
Referring to the Memorandum of Understanding signed in the energy sector and the activities of the established Working Group, the sides discussed expanding cooperation not only in hydrocarbons but also in petrochemicals, electricity, and renewable energy.
The meeting also reviewed preparations for holding the first meeting of the Joint Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria in Azerbaijan in the first half of 2027. The importance of expanding bilateral relations beyond the energy sector to include areas such as trade, agriculture, industry, pharmaceuticals, and higher education was emphasized. In addition, it was agreed that the first meeting of the Working Group on Energy would be held before the meeting of the Joint Commission.
