ANAMA Chairman: Mine-contaminated areas fenced off to ensure safe return to liberated territories

Since the end of the 44-day Patriotic War, 300,565 hectares of land have been cleared by the Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA) and other entities involved in humanitarian demining activities, and 261,705 mines and other explosive ordnance have been neutralised, Chairman of the Board of ANAMA Vugar Suleymanov said during a panel discussion titled “Benefits and Challenges of Integrating Artificial Intelligence into Multi-Hazard Early Warning Systems” held as part of Baku Climate Action Week 2026 (BCAW 2026), APA reports.

“Some 31,037 hectares have been cleared of explosive ordnance for the restoration of the forest fund, the Friendship Forest, national parks such as the Basitchay State Nature Reserve, state nature sanctuaries, riverside areas, restoration of water bodies, geological exploration, areas for the exploration of non-metallic mineral deposits, as well as the installation of early warning systems, all of which reflect environmental assessment projects. In addition, 132,447 hectares have been cleared for agriculture, 71,202 hectares for the development of residential infrastructure, 12,443 hectares for energy infrastructure, and 8,447 hectares for land reclamation and water management projects. In order to ensure the safe and sustainable return to the liberated territories, alongside the demining process, areas highly contaminated with mines and other explosive ordnance are being conserved and fenced off,” Vugar Suleymanov noted.
