Azerbaijan records 11% growth in air traffic during summer season

Air traffic volume in Azerbaijan's airspace increased during the summer season of 2026. A total of 102,130 flights were provided with air navigation services by the Azerbaijan Air Navigation Services Department (AZANS) from June through August, an increase of 11% compared with the same period last year, Heydar Aliyev International Airport told APA-Economics.

Air traffic volume increased consistently throughout the summer months. AZANS provided air navigation services to 32,430 flights in June, 34,322 in July, and 35,378 in August. Thus, August was the busiest month of the summer season in terms of air traffic.

A higher increase was recorded in the number of transit flights. A total of 78,749 transit flights passed through Azerbaijan's airspace from June through August, up 14.5% compared with the same period last year.

The highest daily air traffic volume of the summer season was recorded on August 23. On that day, air navigation services were provided to 1,210 flights in Azerbaijan's airspace.

The season's peak figure for transit flights was recorded on August 22. A total of 920 transit flights passed through Azerbaijan's airspace in a single day. This figure was 13.4% higher than the maximum level recorded during the summer season of 2025.

Note that the double-digit growth recorded in transit flights highlights the importance of Azerbaijan's airspace in international air traffic and the role of air navigation services amid increasing traffic.
