Increasing the role of freight forwarding companies in the development of the Middle Corridor, ensuring the predictability of transit times, and securing cargo for the return direction are among the key issues, Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan Freight Forwarders Association Kamran Habibov said during the Black Sea and Caspian Freight Forum 2026, APA-Economics reports.
According to him, ensuring cargo loads in the return direction is currently one of the main challenges for the Middle Corridor.
Kamran Habibov said that time is one of the main requirements in global trade, while another is security. In this regard, it is important to make transit times along the corridor more predictable.
He noted that although progress is being observed along the Middle Corridor, a shortage of vessels, particularly in the Caspian Sea, creates certain limitations. According to him, a significant expansion of the fleet by 2030 could contribute to resolving this problem.
The Association chairman emphasized that as cargo volumes increase, the burden on infrastructure also grows. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen coordination between infrastructure owners and freight forwarding companies, prepare forecasts in advance and increase capacity at all points.
Kamran Habibov also noted the importance of creating a unified digital platform that would make it possible to track and forecast the movement of cargo.
He said such a platform could make it possible to forecast in advance the potential impact of weather conditions in the Caspian Sea on transportation and possible delays. This, in turn, would enable customers to plan their shipments more efficiently and help increase confidence in the Middle Corridor.
