The United Kingdom and Azerbaijan have a history of cooperation spanning more than three decades, British Ambassador to Azerbaijan Duncan Norman said at a press conference today, APA reports.
According to the ambassador, these relations began in the energy sector: “BP’s pioneering investment contributed to shaping Azerbaijan’s modern economic history, and we continue to build on that strong foundation today.
However, our partnership extends far beyond energy. Today, the partnership encompasses defense, security, trade, education, innovation and people-to-people ties that have taken deep root on both sides. Azerbaijan is a valued partner — there are close ties connecting our two countries and shared views on the key challenges and opportunities of our time.
That is precisely why our governments have agreed to elevate these relations to the level of a Strategic Partnership. This step will ensure deeper cooperation in our shared priorities of creating new opportunities for economic growth, strengthening security and promoting innovation. The United Kingdom and Azerbaijan are building a shared future that delivers real benefits for the peoples of both countries.”
The diplomat noted that ensuring economic growth is one of the priorities of the UK government: “Azerbaijan is an important economic partner for us. We are supporting a new phase of economic cooperation by building deeper ties in trade, investment and regional connectivity. This will benefit both the British and Azerbaijani people, as well as businesses, while creating a stable and prosperous economic environment for future generations.”
