Azerbaijani border guards have prevented the smuggling of more than 84kg of drugs from Iran into Azerbaijan, the State Border Service said, APA reports.
A total of 84.3kg of narcotics and 3,000 methadone M-40 pills containing psychotropic substances were seized during operations in areas controlled by the Horadiz and Goytepe border units.
The State Border Service said that at 01:35 local time on 10 September, officers operating in the Horadiz border unit's area discovered 54.4kg of narcotics that had been transported into Azerbaijan using a paraglider.
In a separate operation at 03:39, border guards in the Goytepe unit's area discovered and seized 29.9kg of narcotics and 3,000 methadone M-40 pills.
The State Border Service said the seizures were made as part of measures aimed at protecting Azerbaijan's state border and combating the illegal trafficking of drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors.
Investigations into both incidents are continuing.
