US President Donald Trump has promised to pay $5,000 to every adult American if the Republican Party retains control of both chambers of Congress in the midterm elections, APA reports.
Trump made the announcement on September 9 during a speech at the Republican Party’s national convention in Dallas ahead of the November midterm elections.
“I promise you this: if Republicans win the House of Representatives and the US Senate — both chambers — I will pay every adult US citizen a $5,000 dividend thanks to our economic success,” Trump said.
The US President stressed that recipients would be required to spend the money within the country. According to Trump, the payment would be called the “Trump Dividend.”
The US congressional midterm elections are scheduled for November 3. All 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 33 of the Senate’s 100 seats will be contested.
Republicans currently control both chambers of Congress.
