Russian authorities have restricted the entry of nearly 200,000 foreigners into the country, First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Russia and Head of the Migration and Citizenship Service Andrey Kikot said during a meeting with President Vladimir Putin, APA's Moscow bureau reports.
According to him, approximately 9 million foreigners come to Russia every year for various purposes.
Kikot noted that Russia has received 321 billion rubles (USD 4 billion) in revenue as a result of all migration processes over the past eighteen months.
Putin stated that the number of illegal migrants deported from Russia has increased 2.6 times.
According to him, the interests of local citizens are above everything else when addressing issues related to labor migrants: “The targeted and organized recruitment of foreigners for employment ensures the rights of migrants themselves, and this should also be taken into account.”
Putin emphasized that over the past 1.5 years, more than 60 billion rubles (USD 700 million) in revenue from work permits for migrants (patents – ed.) has been received by Russia's federal budget.
