The Asian Development Bank (ADB) plans major investments in Azerbaijan over the next five years in the areas of green transition, railways, metro, and water infrastructure, said ADB’s Country Director for Azerbaijan, Sunniya Durrani-Jamal, while outlining the results of cooperation with Azerbaijan and priorities for the coming period, APA-Economics reports.

She said that in 2025, the ADB team worked closely with government agencies and the private sector and identified country priorities. These priorities formed the basis of the new country partnership strategy approved by the ADB Board of Directors in July.

It was noted that the strategy defines how ADB will support Azerbaijan in achieving its development goals at the national and regional levels. Over the next five years, the Bank will continue to support Azerbaijan’s green transition, the expansion of the economy’s value chain, and increased resilience. At the same time, skills development and job creation will be one of ADB’s key priority areas.

Sunniya Durrani-Jamal stated that ADB’s activities in Azerbaijan have also been strengthened by visits of the Bank’s senior management to the country. In this context, the visits of Vice Presidents Yingbing Yang, Scott Morris, Bhargav Dasgupta, and Managing Director Lea Gutierrez were specifically highlighted.

It was emphasized that ADB President Masato Kanda’s visit to Baku in November once again confirmed the Bank’s commitment to Azerbaijan. It was noted that this stage coincides with an important period when the country is ready to benefit from peace dividends.

The ADB official noted that the progress achieved has been made possible thanks to cooperation with government agencies, the private sector, and international partners, and expressed gratitude to the Bank’s global teams.

According to the statement, ADB is preparing to implement major investments in the near future in railway, Baku metro, and water supply infrastructure. In addition, expanding support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is also planned. All these initiatives will contribute to the formation of a greener and more inclusive Azerbaijan.
