The World Bank has updated its forecast for natural gas prices in Europe and the United States for 2026–2027, APA-Economics reports, citing the Bank’s April outlook.

The average price of natural gas in Europe is projected at $15 per 1 mln BTU in 2026 (which is $4.2 higher than the previous forecast) and $12 in 2027 (which is $2.2 higher than the previous forecast).

In addition, the average gas price in the United States is expected to stand at $3.8 per 1 mln BTU in 2026 (which is $0.1 lower than the previous forecast) and $4 in 2027 (which is $0.1 higher than the previous forecast).

According to the World Bank’s calculations, the average gas price in 2025 stood at $12 in Europe and $3.5 in the United States.

Thus, gas prices in Europe are expected to increase by 25.4% year-on-year in 2026 and decrease by 20% in 2027. Meanwhile, gas prices in the United States are projected to rise by 7.8% in 2026 and by 5.3% in 2027.

It should be noted that the transportation of Azerbaijani gas to Europe via the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline began on December 31, 2020.
