Natural gas consumption in the European Union increased by 2.8% year-on-year to 23 billion cubic meters in April this year, APA-Economics reports, citing a report by the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF).

According to the report, the increase in gas demand was mainly linked to higher heating needs among the population amid colder weather conditions observed across large parts of Europe.

It was noted that during the same period, natural gas consumption in the United States decreased by 1.6% year-on-year to 65.5 billion cubic meters.

"This was associated with weakening industrial activity and shows that the impact of economic fluctuations on seasonal energy demand is increasing," the report said.

Recall that the transportation of Azerbaijani gas to Europe via the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) began on December 31, 2020.
