AmCham Azerbaijan co-organizes Technovation by PMI Forum

The American Chamber of Commerce in Azerbaijan (AmCham Azerbaijan) co-organized the internationally recognized “Technovation by PMI” Forum in Baku on June 11, APA-Economics reports.

The forum brought together representatives of government institutions, the business community, and experts from relevant fields, providing a platform for discussions on the role of science and innovation in shaping the future of the economy and various industries.

“Technovation by PMI” is part of a series of international forums promoting dialogue on innovation, science, and regulatory issues.

During the discussions, participants emphasized that technological progress supported by scientific research can contribute not only to the transformation of economies and business models but also to serving public interests. They also discussed the importance of a clear and predictable regulatory environment and evidence-based policy approaches in fostering innovation, realizing the potential benefits of new technologies, and creating a favorable innovation ecosystem.

The event opened with remarks by Dayanat Sadullayev, President of AmCham Azerbaijan, who stressed the importance of constructive dialogue and cooperation among government institutions, the business community, and international partners to promote innovation-driven development.

Addressing the participants, Huseyn Huseynov, Adviser to the Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan, shared his views on Azerbaijan’s economic development priorities and the growing role of the non-oil sector in ensuring long-term prosperity.

Alexey Kim, Director of External Affairs for the CIS Region at PMI, highlighted the importance of regulatory and tax policies that encourage innovation, strengthen public-private partnerships, and generate benefits for society.

The forum’s first panel session, titled “Economic Diversification through the Promotion and Development of the Non-Oil Sector,” focused on opportunities and policy priorities supporting Azerbaijan’s economic transformation. Speakers included Deputy Minister of Energy Elnur Soltanov, Chairman of the Board of the Authorized Body of the Alat Free Economic Zone Valeh Alasgarov, and Executive Director of the Center for Analysis and Coordination of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4SIM) Fariz Jafarov. The session was moderated by Tugra Musayeva, Deputy Chair of AmCham Azerbaijan’s Innovation and Digital Economy Committee and Head of Innovation at PASHA Financial Holding.

The second panel session, “Corporate Transformation Towards Harm Reduction and Sustainable Development,” discussed how companies use innovation, technology, and scientific achievements to adapt to changing market demands, enhance sustainability, and create long-term value. Speakers included Dr. Uygar Durgunay, Managing Director of Acwa, Marianna Karimova, Transformation and Technology Manager at bp, and Tomoko Iida, Director of Scientific Engagement at PMI. The session was moderated by PMI representative Oleksii Kalynichenko.

“Technovation reflects our commitment to science-based innovation and open dialogue. Evidence-based regulation plays an important role in this process by creating a transparent and predictable environment for innovation and access to better alternatives,” said Yuri Gordok, Managing Director of PMI for the Caucasus region.

The event concluded with remarks by Zaur Karimov, Executive Director of AmCham Azerbaijan, who noted that such initiatives play an important role in strengthening Azerbaijan’s position as a key platform for innovation and future-oriented dialogue. He also thanked all speakers, participants, government representatives, and PMI for their contributions to the success of the event.

More than 150 participants, including senior business leaders, government representatives, stakeholders, and local and international media representatives, attended the forum, underscoring the relevance and importance of the topic. It was noted that in 2026, the Technovation Forum was also successfully held in the United States and Sweden.
