Round table was held on restoration of cultural heritage in liberated territories

On December 13, “round table” on projects on the restoration of cultural heritage in the liberated territories from the occupation: targets, challenges, features, prospects were held in Heydar Aliyev Center, APA reports.

Assistant to Azerbaijani President Anar Alakbarov attended the event.

He noted that after the liberation of our territories as a result of the Patriotic war under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, which were under the occupation of Armenia for nearly 30 years, large scale construction restoration works have been started there. A. Alakbarov stated that along with infrastructure projects in the region, large-scale works in inventory and protection of historical and cultural monuments, as well as in the field of restoration are being implemented.

"First Vice-President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva has announced that the Foundation has started the project on restoration of cultural-religious monuments, mosques in the liberated territories from the occupation on December 8, 2020. With this, Heydar Aliyev Foundation shows its support as a member of the civil society to the projects implemented by the state in the historical restoration works. On the instruction of the President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva, alongside the local specialists, foreign experts have been also invited to the project launched in the region. Currently, specialists have been involved in the restoration process from Austria, Great Britain, Bulgaria, Italy, Latvia, Russia, Turkey, Georgia and other countries.

A special working group has been established for the implementation of the project of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation on liberated territories from the occupation and preliminary assessment has been conducted in order to study monuments to be restored. The restoration works cover all monuments, regardless of religious affiliation. Reconstruction of monuments is based on the principle of preserving their original- authentic view. International experience is learned in this regard and advanced methods are also applied in the work on restoration, conservation, and reconstruction of monuments," said Anar Alakbarov.
