Baku. Ulkar Gasimova – APA. Azerbaijan lost a number of culture and literary figures in 2009. APA reports that the first loss in Azerbaijan’s culture was the death of mugham singer Sabir Novruzov. The singer died after long-lasting disease on January 7. On February 13 Azerbaijani people’s poet Bakhtiyar Vahabzadeh died after long-lasting disease. Elmira Abbasova, famous representative of Azerbaijani musicology, honored art figure, member of the Composers Union, professor of Baku Music Academy named after Uzeyir Hajibayli, died at the age of 77 on February 12. The first woman conductor, people’s artist of the USSR and Azerbaijan Veronika Dudarova died a day later. Dudarova, who was born in Baku, was buried in Troyekurov cemetery. Famous Azerbaijani poet and scientist Abdurrahman Tayyar Gulunjlu (Dede Katib) died at the age of 84. Azerbaijani people’s artist, presidential awardee, player of clarinet Vali Gadimov died on April 15. People’s writer, publicist Sabir Ahmadli died two days later on April 17. Alibala Alasgarov, actor of Azerbaijan State Puppet Theater named after Abdulla Shaig died on July 5. Actor of Azerbaijan State Academic National Drama Theater Elkhan Agahuseynoglu died on August 2. Famous scientist, professor, doctor of philological sciences, correspondent member of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, head of philology faculty of Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University Afat Gurbanov died at the age of 81 on September 26. Azerbaijani writer Gilman Ilkin died at the age of 96 on November 6.
About ten Azerbaijani artists have died this year. Agarahim Aliyev, Rafig Mehdiyev, Yusif Huseynov, Manzar Agayeva, Namig Zeynalov, Kamal Alakbarov, Yuri Dasheyvski, Tofig Kazimov and Mirjalil Seyidov died in 2009.

One of the world’s biggest losses of 2009 was death of king of pop Michael Jackson. The king of pop died at the age of 51 in Los Angeles on June 25. He was not buried for some time, as the causes of his death were investigated.

Famous French writer Moris Druon also died in 2009.
Famous Russian actor Oleg Yankovski died on May 20. He had suffered pancreatic cancer for a long time and died in a Moscow clinic. Famous actor Vyacheslav Nevinniy died at the age of 75 on May 31. Famous Russian writer and script writer Georgi Vayner died two weeks later in New York. Famous Russian actor Igor Starig died on August 9. Well-known actor Vyacheslav Tikhonov, who played the role of Shtirlits in the “Seventeen moments of spring”, died at the age of 82. National Hero of Kazakhstan, USSR people’s artist, famous cinema and theater director Azerbaijan Mambetov died in November. Brenda Joyce, who played the role of Jane in “Tarzan”, died at the age of 92. USSR and Azerbaijani people’s artist Lyudmila Zikina, classic of the Soviet literature, author of the state hymn of the USSR Sergei Mikhalkov also died in 2009. Turkish businessman, the first organizer of the Best Model of Azerbaijan Nahid Kabakchi, 60, died in Azerbaijan this year.
