Baku. Ulkar Gasimova – APA. “The series of events held in Baku created argument to declare the city an Islamic Culture Capital. The question is not about the number of expenditures of the events. The question is about that indeed Azerbaijani culture deserves this attention. Azerbaijan is a modern country with rich culture and potential, defending its ancient historic traditions”, the Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfas Garayev told journalists summarizing Baku – Islamic Culture Capital 2009 Year results.

The Minister said ISESCO, which carried out the program of Baku – Islamic Culture Capital Year, sent a letter of gratitude to Azerbaijan. “ISESCO appreciated the events held in Baku and we are proud of that we could realize the Year in a high level. But our work is not finalized. We know that economic-social changes in the country and the president’s policy develops Azerbaijani culture and this process will continue. I consider that despite the Year is finalizing, Azerbaijan is always ready to host the guests and we hope that after this Year, the world community will increase its interest in Azerbaijan and more tourists will visit Azerbaijan”.

Garayev said the events held within the framework of Islamic Culture Capital Year contributed to the popularization of Azerbaijan. 4 million AZN were spent to these events. Everybody worked selflessly this year. Azerbaijan’s cultural treasure can not and should not be measured with any finance”.
