Apasport.az reports that firstly women competed in 1-day competition. 27 athletes competed at the Mountain Bike Velopark. Switzerland’s Jolanda Neff has claimed the first-ever European Games gold medal by winning the women’s Mountain Bike event at the Baku 2015 Games. The 22-year-old world no.1 lived up to her pre-race tag of favourite with a dominant display at the Mountain Bike Velopark, finishing in one hour 31 minutes and five seconds.

 

The battle for silver and bronze was much tighter, with Switzerland’s Kathrin Stirnemann (1:33:08) finishing behind her compatriot and just ahead of Poland's Maja Wloszczowska (1:33:13).

 

Ulfet Nazirli represented Azerbaijan, but failed to reach the finish line.

 

Men’s mountain bike competition will also take place today.
