It was a great show. I am sure that all Azerbaijanis were proud of it. My driver told me today that his eyes were filled with tears while watching the opening ceremony on TV.”

Chief Operating Officer of Baku 2015 European Games Operation Committee (BEGOC) Simon Clegg made the remarks on Saturday at the press conference. He said that there are currently 4,200 athletes in the Olympic village. About 420 athletes are in Mingachevir.

Chief Operating Officer recalled that athletes would compete for the first medals today. “Competitions kicked off yesterday. Mountain bike riders will win the first medals in the history of the games. Six sets of medals in kumite will be played today. I believe that Azerbaijani team will also win medals.”

He said it was good that the representatives and athletes of 50 countries passed the same way. “As for the attitude towards the Armenian athletes, it was expected. “I hope that the fans will respect all the athletes regardless of their countries during the games,” he said.
