Police officer who disseminated footage of Austrian athletes being hit by bus expelled from internal affairs bodies

Baku – APA. The Interior Ministry’s press service has issued new information regarding the incident of Austrian athletes being struck by a bus at the transportation depot of the Athletes Village of the first-ever European Games.

On 11 June 2015, a bus belonging to Bakubus LLC went off its movement line and struck two members of the Austrian national team who were walking along the pedestrian sidewalk at the transportation depot of the Athletes Village, the Interior Ministry told APA.

A criminal case has been initiated over the incident. The bus driver has been put in pretrial detention.

“On the same day, however, footage of the incident has been shared on social networks and web portals by an unknown person. The Interior Ministry discovered in immediate investigative actions that a police officer from the Nizami district police office’s secure city service has sent the footage to an acquaintance of his via a cell phone and the latter has shared it on social networks. Due to his serious fault in service, the police officer was expelled from interior ministry bodies after being interrogated.

Investigations into service are underway,” said the statement.
