Baku 2015: Two Azerbaijani wrestlers advance to finals

Azerbaijani wrestler, gold medal winner at London 2012 Olympic Games, Togrul Asgarov (65 kg) reached the 1/8 finals after defeating his Russian opponent Ilias Bekbulatov with a score of 8:7. Then the Azerbaijani athlete took a lead over his Moldovan rival Mihai Sava with a score of 10:0. In the quarterfinals, Asgarov defeated French wrestler Maxime Fiquet in a 10:0 win and advanced to the semifinals. In the semifinals, he defeated Azamat Nurykau from Belarus with a score 7:2 and advanced to the finals.

In the first fight, Azerbaijani wrestler Khetag Gazyumov (97 kg) defeated Polish athlete Radoslaw Baran with a score of 10:0. Gazyumov took a lead over Nikolay Chebani (Moldova) with a score of 4:0 in the 1/8 finals. The Azerbaijani athlete reached the quarterfinals after defeating Moldovan wrestler Nikolay Chebani in a 4:0 win. Then he gained a victory over Belarusian athlete Ibrahim Saidov with a score of 2:1 and advanced to the semifinals. He defeated Abdusalam Gadisov in a 4:2 win and advanced to finals. He will compete with Georgian wrestler Elizbar Odikadze.

Earlier, Azerbaijani wrestler Yashar Aliyev, competing in the weight category of 57 kg, reached the semifinal of the freestyle wrestling competition. In the quarterfinals, he gained a victory over Armenian athlete Garik Barseghyan with a score of 10:6. Then he lost to Victor Lebedov (Russia) with a score of 1:3. He will compete for a bronze medal.
