Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to begin their meeting by discussing the situation related to the crash of the AZAL plane, APA reports.
During the meeting held today in Dushanbe, Putin once again offered his condolences regarding the crash and recalled that he had apologized during their earlier phone conversation.
The Russian President stated that the investigation into the incident is ongoing and will be completed soon.
Speaking about the incident, Putin noted that there had been airspace intrusions into Russian territory on that day, and the Russian Air Force had opened fire. Although the fire was not directed at the aircraft, fragments struck the plane.
“In this regard, compensation will be paid, and those responsible will be punished,” Putin emphasized.
