Georgia national football team head coach Willy Sagnol has stepped down from his position, APA’s local bureau reports, citing the Georgian Football Federation.
According to the information, Ramaz Svanadze has been appointed as the new head coach of the national team. The contract signed with the 45-year-old specialist will remain in force until the end of 2028. He previously served as head coach of Georgia’s U21 national team.
Sagnol’s resignation is reportedly linked to Georgia’s 1-0 defeat to Northern Ireland in their opening Nations League match yesterday.
The French specialist had been head coach of the Georgian national team since February 2021. Under his leadership, the team played 57 matches and qualified for the final stage of the European Championship for the first time in its history in 2024.
