“In recent days, the widespread circulation in Türkiye’s media space, particularly on social media, of unfounded posts that are incompatible with legal, diplomatic and ethical frameworks and are aimed at damaging Azerbaijan-Türkiye fraternal relations and creating a negative perception of these relations in public opinion, as well as unfounded and biased claims, has naturally caused concern among our public,” the Media and Broadcasting Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan said in a statement, APA reports.
The statement noted that, given the high level of relations between the two brotherly countries and the atmosphere of mutual trust, the continued nature of smear campaigns against Azerbaijan at certain short intervals, the ease with which biased claims and disinformation are spread, and the absence of any measures against them are regarded as regrettable and unacceptable:
“The posts in question are not random initiatives by individuals, but are part of a deliberate campaign carried out on the basis of certain coordination and a unified approach and managed by certain circles. Such actions are not only incompatible with legal and ethical frameworks, but also contradict the requirements of the legislation of the Republic of Türkiye. We believe that, as in other relevant cases, a sensitive approach and enforcement of legal requirements should also be demonstrated with regard to Azerbaijan.
The Azerbaijani side is closely monitoring developments in the Turkish media and social media segment, and the possibility of taking appropriate measures provided for by legislation, including considering restrictions on the entry into our country of the organizers and executors of the smear campaign, is not ruled out.
Our public considers it unacceptable to provide a platform to those seeking to damage the historical, political and moral bonds, mutual trust and strategic alliance established between the two states and peoples, and expects practical steps to be taken to prevent such attempts."
