Block trains will be sent from the Black Sea ports of Georgia to Baku, APA's local bureau reports, citing Georgian Railways CJSC.

According to the mutual agreement signed by the institution with Azerbaijan Railways CJSC in Almaty, simplified service will be provided to cargo owners.

Block trains will operate along the Batumi-Poti-Tbilisi-Absheron-Sumgayit-Alat route, connecting the Black Sea ports with the largest terminals of Azerbaijan.

The trains will operate according to a predetermined schedule, and cargo owners will be able to transport containers from the port of Poti to Baku in the shortest possible time. The cargo owner will know in advance how long it will take for his container to arrive in Baku and how long it will take for the empty container to return.

Lasha Abashidze, General Director of Georgian Railways JSC, said that with the new service, cargo owners will significantly save time and additional costs: “Storage of cargo and empty containers at terminals requires a daily fee. Our goal is for the company to transport as much cargo as possible and, as a result, increase the income of Georgian Railways.”
