Cooperation will continue between Azerbaijan and Georgia on the establishment of the "Silk Road" joint customs checkpoint, APA's local bureau reports.

This was stated at the 6th joint meeting of the heads of customs authorities of Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and Georgia held in Istanbul.

The parties welcomed the completion of the procedures for signing the protocol on the "Silk Road" joint customs checkpoint. They agreed to continue active cooperation to ensure the signing of the document in the near future.

The Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia stated that during the trilateral meeting, the importance of deepening cooperation between the neighboring countries, simplifying customs control procedures, and increasing the region’s competitiveness as a trade corridor was emphasized.

The parties also discussed the full digitization of border crossing points to increase the efficiency of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line and to expedite customs procedures. It was noted that this would further reduce the time required for customs clearance and, accordingly, transportation costs.

At the meeting Shahin Bagirov, Chairman of the State Customs Committee represented Azerbaijan; Sezai Uçarmak, Deputy Minister of Trade represented Türkiye and Irakli Beraya, Head of the Revenue Service represented Georgia.
