The construction of the South Cargo Terminal, owned by Azerbaijan Railways and located in the Iranian city of Astara — an important component of the North-South Transport Corridor — is nearing completion, Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev said at a trilateral meeting of government representatives from Azerbaijan, Russia, and Iran held in Baku, APA reports.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted that, under the Intergovernmental Memorandum of Understanding signed between Azerbaijan and Iran in March 2022, the new Aghband–Kalaleh automobile bridge being built over the Araz River will become an important part of the region’s strategic transport infrastructure: “It is planned to complete the construction of the bridge — a key component of the Araz Corridor — by the end of this year, and the accompanying border and customs infrastructure in the first quarter of next year.”
