Emergency Situations Ministries of Russia and Azerbaijan sign complex cooperation plan for 2009-2011

Russian Minister of Emergency Situations Sergei Shoigu and Azerbaijani Minister of Emergency Situations Kamaladdin Heydarov signed the document.

Director of International Cooperation Department of Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations Yuri Brajnikov said established in 2006 Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations had chosen Russian model and Russia assisted in the formation of the ministry.
“We are glad that such a structure has been established in the region, because there are man-made and emergency risks in the region,” he said.

Yuri Brajnikov said according to the signed document Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations will assist Azerbaijan not only in the provision-related issues, but also in the further development of the ministry.
“Here mainly includes qualification of personnel. Civil Defence Academy will be established in Baku soon, Russian specialists will also participate in this process,” he said.

Brajnikov noted that Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations had been mainly provided with Russian-made equipment, helicopters and rescue boats.
“Azerbaijan is the first country to buy multipurpose amphibious aircraft from Russia,” he said.

Yuri Brajnikov also said that the sides had discussed joint participation in rescue operations in the territory of the third country.

Apart from it, Ministries of Emergency Situations of Russia and Azerbaijan reached an agreement to coordinate the work of the National Centers for Management in Critical Situations in future.
