In January–September 2025, tax debts to the state budget increased by 452.6 million manats, or 14.3%, compared to the beginning of the year, with the main share of the debt belonging to the non-oil and gas sector, APA-Economics reports.
This is reflected in the opinion of the Chamber of Accounts on the draft state budget of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2026.
The increase in tax debt was influenced by both the principal amount of the tax and by financial sanctions and interest. While 60.3% of the debt growth was due to the principal amount, 25.3% was due to interest. The fact that 35.1% of the total debt amount at the end of the period consisted of financial sanctions and interest makes it necessary to strengthen administration in this area.
