A significant proportion of citizens in European Union countries do not know who heads the European Commission (EC), APA reports.
This is according to the results of a survey conducted by Public First on behalf of Politico.
According to the survey, more than 20% of respondents in France said they did not know European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. The figure was 10% in Spain and 5% in Germany.
Politico notes that von der Leyen has also failed to gain widespread popularity and trust among EU citizens who know her.
The survey was conducted on September 13-15 among more than 2,000 adult respondents in each of Germany, France and Spain. The results were released ahead of Ursula von der Leyen's annual State of the European Union address in Strasbourg.
According to the research, an average of only 10% of respondents across the three countries said they planned to watch the speech live. About one-third said they would not follow the details of the address.
