Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom have agreed on the text of a document on strategic partnership, UK Minister of State for Trade Lord Anas Sarwar said during his speech at the 8th meeting of the Azerbaijan-UK Joint Intergovernmental Commission in Baku, APA-Economics reports.
“Last year, the United Kingdom and Azerbaijan agreed to elevate our relations to the level of a strategic partnership. Since then, our governments have been working intensively to give real substance to this agreement. I am pleased to announce that we have agreed on the text of that partnership document,” the minister said.
Lord Anas Sarwar said the document is expected to be signed by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
“I look forward to our Prime Minister and your President meeting and signing this partnership document,” he added.
According to the British minister, without waiting for the document to be signed, the sides will begin work on establishing a strategic partnership working group and achieving concrete results.
He said that there is a long-standing and deep partnership between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom, and that the relationship also encompasses economic and defense security.
“Now we must write the next chapter of this partnership together. We believe that our relations can grow even stronger from here,” Lord Anas Sarwar emphasized.
The minister noted the importance of strengthening ties between people and businesses alongside intergovernmental relations. According to him, the goal is not to limit efforts to systems and agreements, but to move toward their practical implementation.
Lord Anas Sarwar described Azerbaijan as part of the United Kingdom’s strategic, economic and security future.
He also expressed satisfaction with his meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev this morning, noting that he had directly conveyed to the head of state the long-standing and deep nature of the partnership between the two countries.
