“Diplomatic relations cannot be restored as long as Russia continues to recognize the ‘independence’ of Georgian territories,” Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists, APA’s local bureau reports.
According to him, Georgia’s goal is to achieve a peaceful resolution of the conflict with Russia.
“We hope that this will become possible as a result of political changes. A peaceful resolution of the conflict is one of our foreign policy priorities,” Kobakhidze added.
Recall that following the August 2008 war, after Russia recognized the “independence” of Georgia’s regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, Tbilisi severed diplomatic relations with Moscow, which had been established in 1992, on September 2 of that year.
It should be noted that the Russian Foreign Ministry has repeatedly stated its readiness to restore diplomatic relations with Georgia.
