World Bank: Natural gas prices increased in Europe and the US last month

In May this year, the average price of natural gas in Europe amounted to $16.17 per 1 million BTU (British thermal unit), which is 4.93% higher compared to the previous month's figure ($15.41), APA-Economics reports, citing the World Bank's monthly commodity markets report.

According to the report, the average price of natural gas in Europe stood at $13.63 in the first quarter of this year, which is 5.41% lower compared to the corresponding period of last year ($14.41).

The Bank recalls that the average price of gas in Europe was $11.96 in 2025, which is 9.1% higher compared to the 2023 figure ($10.96).

Note that the transportation of Azerbaijani gas to Europe via the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) began on December 31, 2020.

According to the report, the average price of natural gas in the United States amounted to $2.93 per 1 million BTU in May this year, which is 5.8% higher compared to the previous month's figure ($2.77).

It was reported that the average price of natural gas in the United States stood at $4.75 in the first quarter of this year, which is 14.5% higher compared to the corresponding period of last year ($4.15).

The report notes that the average gas price in the United States amounted to $3.53 last year, which is 61.2% higher compared to the previous year's figure ($2.19).
