“We are strengthening cooperation with Azerbaijan on the Green Energy Corridor,” Uzbekistan's Energy Minister Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov said during the 31st Baku Energy Forum, APA-Economics reports.

According to him, Central Asia can become one of the world's most promising regions for clean energy development and investment thanks to its rich renewable energy resources, vast hydropower potential, and strategic geographical location.

The minister noted that Uzbekistan aims to create 20 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 and increase the share of renewable energy sources in electricity generation to 54%.

J. Mirzamakhmudov emphasized that the energy transition cannot be achieved through the efforts of individual countries alone and that regional cooperation is a key prerequisite for ensuring energy security, attracting investment, and building sustainable energy systems.

According to him, the APREC initiative presented in Baku during COP29 serves as an important platform for strengthening regional cooperation, mobilizing investment, and accelerating renewable energy projects.

“We continue to strengthen cooperation with Azerbaijan in the fields of renewable energy, regional connectivity, and the implementation of the Green Energy Corridor. This project will create a new route for exporting clean electricity from Central Asia to Europe,” the minister said.

J. Mirzamakhmudov added that the next phase of the energy transition will require significant investments in transmission networks, energy storage systems, digital technologies, and cross-border energy interconnections.
