Ukraine is expanding energy cooperation with Azerbaijan and Türkiye, Ukraine's Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal stated during the ministerial-level plenary session held within the framework of the 31st Baku Energy Forum, APA-Economics reports.

According to him, Ukraine is working on creating new electricity and gas interconnections in order to strengthen integration into the European energy system.

D. Shmyhal noted that cooperation with Azerbaijan and Türkiye is of particular importance in this context.

“We are currently conducting very productive cooperation and negotiations with Azerbaijan and Türkiye on the use of Ukraine as a gateway to Europe for all types of energy. This is related to our large gas storage facilities and strong electricity grid,” the minister emphasized.

According to him, Ukraine is implementing a policy of decentralizing electricity generation to increase the resilience of its energy system, and in the future it plans to increase the share of gas-fired generation in total energy production to at least 25%.

The minister added that oil and gas continue to maintain strategic importance for both Ukraine and Europe, and cooperation with Caspian region countries in this area can be expanded.
