The next stage of the project for exporting “green energy” produced in Nakhchivan will be discussed at the meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council to be held in Baku in March, said Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar in a statement to APA’s Türkiye bureau.

The minister noted that cooperation with Azerbaijan is of strategic importance not only in electricity but also in natural gas.

According to him, the 33 billion cubic meter gas agreement signed with Azerbaijan will meet part of Türkiye’s natural gas demand over the next 15 years.

“We have many projects that we are implementing together. Natural gas is very important to us. SOCAR is a key supplier for us, and this cooperation has been ongoing for many years. The existing pipelines and the newly signed agreement will ensure the continuity of our relations even after 2030. We also produce our own gas, but demand across the country is high. Over the next 15 years, we will continue to purchase part of the natural gas we need from Azerbaijan. In addition, there is a ‘green energy corridor’ project among Azerbaijan, Georgia, Türkiye, and Bulgaria. This project envisages the export of electricity generated from renewable sources, particularly in Nakhchivan, to Türkiye and Europe. The documents have already been signed, and at the Southern Gas Corridor meeting to be held in March, it is planned to move the project to the next stage,” the minister emphasized.
