SOCAR’s STAR oil refinery located in Türkiye has begun reducing its purchases of Russian crude oil since last year, APA-Economics reports, citing Fitch Solutions.

“By the end of 2025, the STAR refinery reportedly began reducing its purchases of Russian crude oil, reflecting a gradual geopolitical pullback,” the report states.

According to the information, the SOCAR-owned STAR refinery in Türkiye uses approximately 98% Russian-produced crude oil, with 73% supplied directly by Lukoil, a company under U.S. sanctions.

It is noted that the refinery has started seeking alternative suppliers and has recently purchased four cargoes of crude oil from Kazakhstan, Iraq, and other producers. This marks a change compared to previous years, when Russian crude constituted the main share of the refinery’s feedstock.
