Azerbaijan has been playing a significant role in regional and European energy security for many years through strategic projects such as the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan oil pipeline, the Southern Gas Corridor, TANAP, and TAP, Azerbaijan's Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov said during the 1st Meeting of Energy Ministers of D-8 Member States held in Baku, APA-Economics reports.

According to him, this role is currently being further expanded through green energy corridors being developed between the South Caucasus, Central Asia, Türkiye, and Europe.

“At the same time, the acceleration of the green transition in Europe, uncertainties regarding future gas demand, and increasing competition in global energy markets make it even more urgent for Azerbaijan to strengthen and expand its energy diplomacy across a broader geography,” the minister noted.

He emphasized that growing geopolitical tensions, volatility in energy markets, disruptions in supply chains, accelerated electrification, and the green transition are significantly reshaping the global energy landscape.

According to Parviz Shahbazov, these processes demonstrate that relying on a single source, a single route, or a single market is no longer a sustainable and reliable strategy. Under new geopolitical realities, diversification of energy policies, expansion into new markets, and the establishment of new partnerships have become important factors in strengthening the strategic resilience of states.

“Azerbaijan consistently pursues a balanced approach between energy security and the energy transition, while also developing regional energy corridors extending from oil and gas to electricity and green energy,” the minister said.
