Azerbaijan’s role during the energy crisis is of particular importance to Europe’s energy security, said Chairman of the Board at VNG AG Ulf Heitmuller during the session titled “Gas Markets: Infrastructure, Strategy and Geopolitics” at the Baku Energy Forum, APA-Economics reports.

According to him, the importance of reliable energy partners has increased further under the current geopolitical circumstances, and Azerbaijan plays a significant role in this regard.

“We are grateful for the role Azerbaijan has played during this period. It is a major contribution to security of supply amid the current energy crisis. Frankly speaking, reliable partners have become a rarity under today’s conditions,” he said.

Ulf Heitmüller noted that while volatility in energy markets makes long-term investments more difficult, cooperation with Azerbaijan and SOCAR remains strategically important.

According to him, demand for natural gas in the German market will continue in the coming decades, making the diversification of both supply sources and sales markets particularly important.

“Diversification does not contradict strategic partnerships. On the contrary, it makes long-term cooperation even more important in a volatile and uncertain environment,” the VNG AG official emphasized.

Ulf Heitmüller added that establishing long-term and reliable partnerships between producers and consumers is essential to increasing the resilience of the energy market.
