“The European Union’s new connectivity strategy for Central Asia covers not only energy but also transport and other areas,” Cristina Lobillo Borrero, Director for Energy Security and International Relations at the European Commission, told APA-Economics.

C. Lobillo Borrero noted that a strategic partnership exists between the European Union and Azerbaijan in the energy sector.

“This partnership covers cooperation in renewable energy, interconnectors, and the energy transition. At the same time, gas imports are of great importance in the European Union’s process of reducing dependence on Russian gas, and in this regard, partnership with Azerbaijan is very important,” she emphasized.

According to the EU official, cooperation with Azerbaijan is based on two main pillars: “The clean energy of the future, renewable energy sources and energy interconnections, as well as gas supplies, which currently play an important role in ensuring the European Union’s energy security.”
