Azerbaijan is one of the most important partners in our new connectivity strategy, Cristina Lobillo Borrero, Director for Energy Security and International Relations at the European Commission, stated during a panel session held within the framework of the 31st Baku Energy Forum, APA-Economics reports.
According to her, energy security has once again become one of the main priorities on the international agenda, and the European Union continues its permanent energy dialogue with partner countries.
Lobillo Borrero noted that the European Union is working on a new connectivity strategy with Central Asia. This strategy covers not only the energy sector but also trade, investment, and other areas.
“In this strategy, Azerbaijan is one of the European Union’s most important partners,” she emphasized.
The EU official stated that the bloc is seeking to expand cooperation with partner countries in the development of energy trade, the alignment of regulatory frameworks, and the energy transition.
According to her, the European Union’s energy transition is primarily focused on electrification and the development of renewable energy sources. At the same time, she noted that every country has the right to implement its energy transition in line with its own priorities.
Lobillo Borrero added that energy security, supply reliability, and decarbonization remain among the key priorities of the EU’s international partnerships.
