The process of transferring the operatorship of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) main export oil pipeline to SOCAR may be completed by July 1, bp's Regional President for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Türkiye, Gio Kristofoli, said in a statement to journalists, APA-Economics reports.
According to him, the transfer of operatorship is not related to bp's withdrawal from the project, but is the implementation of an existing contractual obligation.
“July 1 is the date specified in the contract, and we are trying to complete this process by that date. I would like to emphasize that this does not mean bp is leaving the project. It is about fulfilling a contractual obligation,” he said.
Kristofoli noted that bp will continue its activities in the BTC project and supports the transition of operatorship to SOCAR.
“We are excited about SOCAR becoming the operator. We have worked on a very comprehensive transition process in this direction. SOCAR has the necessary experience and capabilities to successfully operate the pipeline,” the bp official stressed.
According to him, work on the transfer of operatorship is continuing in line with the planned schedule.
