BP regional president: Azerbaijan could become a world-class energy hub in the coming decades

Azerbaijan and the Caspian region could become a world-class energy hub over the coming decades, said Giovanni Cristofoli, bp’s regional president for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Türkiye, during the session titled “Leaders’ Speeches: Leaders’ Perspectives on Energy Transformation and Future Strategies” at the Baku Energy Forum, APA-Economics reports.

According to him, the region’s rich hydrocarbon resources, developed energy infrastructure, favorable business environment, and strong human capital are the key advantages for achieving this goal.

Cristofoli said that the Caspian basin is one of the world’s largest hydrocarbon regions. He noted that the Sangachal Terminal, the pipeline system, and other energy infrastructure allow for the diversification of export routes and operate with a 99% reliability rate.

According to the bp official, Azerbaijan also possesses highly qualified human capital: “We are increasingly turning Baku into the new Houston and the new Aberdeen. Azerbaijani specialists are already playing an important role not only in local projects but also in bp’s operations across various regions of the world.”
