Newly commissioned solar and wind power plants in Azerbaijan are expected to generate approximately 1 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, Javid Abdullayev, Director of the State Agency for Renewable Energy Sources of Azerbaijan, said at a meeting of the Green Energy Advisory Council in Baku, APA-Economics reports.

According to him, these projects will result in annual savings of more than 330 million cubic meters of natural gas and reduce carbon emissions by approximately 600,000 tons.

Abdullayev noted that projects currently under implementation in the next phase will increase the share of renewable energy in total electricity generation to 23.7%. This represents approximately 5 billion kilowatt-hours of additional green energy production, 1.3 billion cubic meters of gas savings, and a reduction of 2.4 million tons of emissions.

He stated that land allocation and contractual matters for the new electricity projects have largely been resolved, while grid reinforcement measures are underway, including the development of a 250 MW energy storage system.

By 2030, the total installed capacity of renewable energy projects is planned to reach 6–8 GW, enabling exports exceeding domestic demand through interconnectors.

Abdullayev emphasized that green energy projects strengthen investor confidence and contribute not only to the country’s energy security but also to its decarbonization targets.
