Today marks the 74th year of a historical milestone in the oil industry, the commissioning of the world's first offshore oil platform at Azerbaijan's Oil Rocks, the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan made a post on X social media account, APA-Economics reports.

According to the information, on this day in 1949, 100 tons of oil per day were produced from well No. 1 at a depth of 942 meters, and a new era in exploration and production in the open sea was opened.

"The Oil Rocks is a unique urban platform built on metal poles anchored to the seabed at 42 kilometers southeast of the Absheron Peninsula. The launch of this platform is connected with the names of oilman-geologist Agha Gurban Aliyev, followed by other pioneers such as Yusif Safarov and Mikhail Kaverochkin," the post notes.
