Azerbaijan exempts defense-purposed imports from customs duty and VAT

The Cabinet was instructed to make a decision on the issue within 15 days.
Under the decree, the Ministry of Defense Industry and its subordinate bodies were given a postponement until January 1, 2009 for contributions accrued as at April 1, 2008 for compulsory social insurance due to the State Social Protection Fund (on the condition that debts for 2008 will be paid and no current debt will be created).
Also, fines accrued and outstanding as at April for these debts will be written off.
The ministryâ€™s and its subordinate bodiesâ€™ payables for gas, water and electricity calculated as at April 1 will be paid at the cost of the government.
The President gave instructions to write off debts overdue under the Tax Code and to give a postponement for payment of tax debts and fines and financial sanctions accrued on them as at April 1 and to take measures for the payment of receivables.
